IG Group, a leading, global fintech company at the forefront of trading innovation since 1974, is Top Sponsor of the project “Glac-UPxPresena 2023”, after being Top Sponsor of the 2022 edition. In this way, It has contributed to the active protection of the Presena glacier through the use of protective sheets during the warmest months. The project supported the effort of the Pontedilegno-Tonale Consortium to slow down the melting rate of the glacier. Furthermore, IG Group worked with Glac-UP to raise awareness on the issue of climate change.

Glac-UPxPRESENA

Glac-UPxPresena 2022” is the first local project conceived by Glac-UP, in collaboration with the Pontedilegno-Tonale Consortium, as a way to support the protection activities on the Presena glacier, in the Pontedilegno-Tonale ski area. It is a glacier on which winter skiing is practiced, and on which, since the summer of 2008, an active protection activity has been implemented through the use of white reflective tarps. This practice is aimed at mitigating the effects of climate change on the glacier, slowing down the retreat and allowing us all to experience it longer. Thanks to Glac-UP, companies like IG Group can support this initiative and amplify Glac-UP's awareness-raising message through the involvement of their stakeholders.

1. AWARENESS RAISING

Glac-UP organized for IG Group employees from all over the world a series of three workshops, offering a deep dive on the themes of climate change, its effect on glaciers and the importance of reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

The workshops were held by two experienced glaciologists of Università degli Studi di Milano (Department of Environmental Sciences and Policy).

In addition, with the help of content and materials shared by Glac-UP, IG Group has created some posts on its social media channels, to correctly communicate its commitment to its stakeholders.​

In the 2023 awareness raising activity Glac-UP developed a self-paced course Glac-UP Academy  for employees and their families to deepen the scientific understanding behind climate change

2. LOCAL IMPACT

IG Group has adopted 10,000 square meters of the Presena glacier for the 2022 and 2023 summer seasons, supporting the purchase, installation, maintenance and removal of protective  tarps on the surface of the glacier during the warmer months to decelerate the ice-melting rate.

3. ON-SITE COMMUNICATIONS

As Top Sponsor for 2022 and 2023, IG Group's commitment to Presena was mentioned in the summer installation designed by Glac-UP, in collaboration with the Pontedilegno-Tonale Consortium.

 

A series of panels, placed at the foot of the glacier, helped the many people who visited Presena during the two summers discover something more about the history of the glacier and the threat posed by climate change.

Furthermore, as Top Sponsor, IG Group obtained the opportunity to brand the bill posting space in the central ticket office of Ponte di Legno for the entire duration of the '22-'23 winter seasons.
